This series is based on contour line drawings I did of my high school students when I taught in my previous life. These were part of a series of Paintings that I created back in 2005, and were the last series of paintings that I did before transitioning into a fiber artist.
“Watch Children” are my renditions of these paintings. I have played with a variety of bird heads, pattern backgrounds, props and the precious seeds and pollinators needed for our eco system to continue and for their bird lives to thrive. Each piece features freehand machine stitching ,to imitate my ink drawings, a variety of fabrics for texture , overlay and pattern. Frame can easily be removed for staining or painting.
This piece is titled "Brian Having a Hard Time Guarding the Nuts”" features all freehand machine stitching on the bird headed figure ,stitched on organza , cotton fabric for her clothes is then appliquéd and then the entire figure is appliquéd and reinforced stitched onto the decor cotton fabric. The nuts are freehand machine stitched on felt thatt is then appliquéd and reinforced stitched on.
This final piece is stretched on a wooden painting panel . This piece can be purchased framed or unframed. The frame is made by neighbor who is a retired carpenter and can take up to a couple of weeks to get complete if it is currently unavailable framed. The frame is a high quality pine that is thick enough for the piece to sit on a shelf or mantle, but also can be hanged on a wall.
The dimensions of the framed work is 13.5" X 10.5" X 2"
Unframed dimensions are 12" X 9" X .75"
*****Framed pieces may take longer that three weeks if not in stock.
A metal D-ring is screwed into the back for ready hanging.
Works well in a grouping!
